Basic Newborn Beanie Pattern
This pattern was written for a newborn but if you would like to make larger sizes add more rows of increases.
My newborn beanies are usually 13 inches around.
Materials:
- Worsted weight baby yarn
- J or 6.0 mm hook
- yarn needle
- scissors
sc - single crochet
dc- double crochet
slst- slip stitch
ch- chain
**- repeat between *
Chain 4
sl st or join to beginning ch
ch 2 (ch 2 does not count as a dc throughout pattern)
(dc over loose tail, at the end pull remaining string to close hole in top)
Row 1 10 dc in ring, join to ch 2 st, ch 2
Row 3 dc in same st, 2 dc in nxt dc, *dc in nxt dc, 2 dc in nxt dc*, * repeat to end sl st into top of ch2 st, (30 dc), ch 2
Row 4 dc in same st, dc in the nxt dc, 2 dc in nxt dc, *dc in the nxt dc, dc in the nxt dc, 2 dc in the nxt dc*, repeat to end sl st into top of ch 2 st, (40 dc), ch 2
(edges should start to curl up)
Row 5 - 10 1 dc in each dc around sl st into top of ch 2 st, (40 dc), ch 1
(At the beginning of a row always dc in same st as ch 2)
(If you would like a larger beanie just add more rows of increases instead of stopping at row 3.)
Row 11 sc in ea dc around, sl st into ch 1, fasten off and weave in ends.
Voila! You have a beautiful newborn beanie!
(edges should start to curl up)
